Autumn Zev

This is Zev, my very last custom doll of the year.  She is a fun loving little girl, who so enjoys the simple things in life, though a little impatient at times I must admit - truth is I just can't knit that fast little Zev!
We have had great fun taking her upload photos, it was a beautiful autumn morning and the colours were just spectacular! Zev felt very special to be the only one who was all in blue!

She wears a sweet knit dress, made from a one of a kind hand dyed skein of pure merino wool

She has tumbling tresses of beautiful brushed teeswater in Ocean Jewel shades

She has a wee baby all of her own
My dolls just love baby wearing!

Zev has a little sister too!

And lastly I just have to include this photo, I always end up with a couple like this at every photo shoot - my little boy investigating something in the background, someday maybe I will dedicate a post to these photos, they make me smile every time I see them!

Christmas Pixies

Now you would be forgiven for thinking that these dear little dolls were Elves, they have little pointed ears, a distinctive giggle and just adore bright and shiny objects. However my friends, these are Christmas Pixies!

Here in Devon (and generally the southwest) we are famous for our Pixie folklore and legend, I have spent many a childhood afternoon searching the garden for these playful creatures, and once I really thought I saw one collecting honey suckle blossoms!

Thus so I found it only fitting that my Christmas dolls should be Pixies. These happy souls simply love the festive season, gathering delicious foods, singing, dancing and generally making merry!
I'm sure they will take some good old west-country cheer with them wherever they go!

November Nestlings

Oh how these mischievous little ones have kept me busy over the past month! It's been a flurry of fur and tails, foxes chasing rabbits, then rabbits chasing foxes! The poor bears have just wanted to snooze bless them, I think it's getting close to their winter hibernation! Still all these Nestling babies have found their new homes, and are looking forward to lots of love and cuddles come Christmas day!

Squid Girl - diminutive defender of the ocean

Squid Girl is a custom I have made this month based on a character from a Japanese anime show

Despite being only eight inches tall she has a huge heart and cares deeply for our oceans and all it's beautiful creatures. I have been amazed at how knowledgeable she is, pointing out all the different species of shells as we strolled along the beach this morning, explaining how to tell the difference between all the different types of seagull in our area. Most of all though what has touched my heart about this doll is her genuine concern about the harm we as humans cause to the planet through pollution.

Bude - Devon

This week we read this article about pollution and its effects ( click here ) and felt that we should do something to help!
So this morning, me, my son and little Squid Girl took a trip out to the coast and spent an hour or so collecting up plastic and rubbish that had washed ashore.

Our beautiful coast

Living in Devon we are blessed to have some of the most beautiful coastline, I feel privileged that I can live, work and raise my children here, and I want it to stay this beautiful! It only takes a small shift in perspective, a tiny bit of thought when making decisions about what you buy and what you throw away. Over one million birds die every year as a direct result of ocean pollution, there is a floating rubbish tip that stretches from California to Japan! Our planet cannot sustain us this way, we need to start cleaning up after ourselves, and each other.

Squid Girl ready to help!

Squid girl was so happy on our way home, "Every piece of rubbish we picked up today might have just saved a life" she said, rosy cheeked and eyes sparkling. That, for me is what its all about, everyone, no matter how small can have a positive impact on our planet!
